The new year is often a time when we review our personal situation and contemplate changes.  For some of us that may be a new job and career change.  If you enjoy helping older people in our local community the role of a home care could be for you!  The good thing about home care is the availability of flexible hours, and helping people who are grateful is very rewarding.  Like all care companies we have very high demand for morning care from 7am to 10am but we also have other times of the day that need to be covered.  Our standard operating hours for care are 7am to 10pm, seven days a week.  We are particularly interested to hear from applicants who want to work evenings and some weekends.  We can consider applicants wanting to work from 10 hours a week to full time work around 30-40 hours.

Most of the people we care for are over the age of 70 years. If you enjoy chatting to this age group and would like to help them them it could be the job you want.  Independent Living only cares for people in the Chorley Borough and Leyland area which helps reduce your travel time.  This is quite unusual as most care companies cover a much larger area meaning your journeys can be 10 miles or more.  We also pay our carers mileage to cover petrol costs.

Care qualifications of course are always helpful.  However, the job of a carer does not necessarily need qualifications as we provide shadowing and training at the start for a good applicant.  A lack of qualifications is not usually a barrier to working in care.  Probably half of our carers are new to to the role when they come to work for us.  The best qualities are: having a caring nature, being able to communicate with older people, reliability and being able to deal with day-to-day problems.

A carer’s role includes:

  • Companionship;
  • Personal Care;
  • Medication prompting;
  • Making food and drinks;
  • Light housework;
  • Shopping and errands;
  • Taking clients to appointments;
  • And much more…..

For those interested overnight work is sometimes available.

Applicants must be over the age of 18, own a car, and will be subject to a DBS check (paid for by Independent Living).  We provide carers uniforms.
