As I write this blog the sun continues to shine and throughout May 2025 so far we have had a few great weeks of weather. One our carers has just been in the office and told me it is going to change though! Tomorrow I hope the great weather continues as I am taking a lady to Fulwood Hospital in Preston for an outpatients’ appointment. Many people think care companies like Independent Living only look after people in their own home, those who are housebound. Increasingly we take people out and about to medical appointments. Tomorrow is a typical example, the lady relies on her niece but she is unavailable. Independent Living will step in and help on these occasions. We offer a flexible service and can help people on an ad hoc basis. The more notice you can give us the better but if you get an appointment at short notice we will also do our best to help.
The lady concerned has poor mobility and I will use the company’s lightweight wheelchair to ensure she can be transported to the right place. Whilst she has her appointment I will wait for and later return her home. The advantage of using Independent Living is that unlike many taxi companies we actually accompany someone on their appointment rather than just dropping them off. We will find the correct department which is most useful in larger hospitals like the Royal Preston. In some cases people have to move between hospital departments and having a carer available makes this easier.
If you or loved one has medical appointment why not give Independent Living a call. Whilst we often take people to local hospitals we also cover those further afield such as the Blackpool Victoria, Salford Hope or the Manchester Eye Hospital.
